“I write to translate the interior world into language.”
About the author

Kevin
McMillion.

As a writer, my work is rooted in an ongoing attempt to translate the interior world—its tensions, longings, and quiet revelations—into language that feels both intimate and universal. I write to make sense of the things that refuse to leave me alone: memory, love, loss, faith, and the weight of becoming. These are my dominant themes, not because I intentionally choose them, but because they are the questions that return to me again and again, demanding to be shaped into words.

My development as a writer has been shaped by a growing willingness to lean into vulnerability. When I first began writing, I focused on clarity and impact, trying to “say something important.” Over time, I have learned that the most meaningful writing often arises not from asserting answers, but from honestly exploring uncertainty. I have become more comfortable allowing silence, breath, and emotional ambiguity to exist on the page. I no longer try to control every line; instead, I let images emerge organically, trusting the emotional truth of the moment to guide the language.

My obsessions are the small and luminous details that anchor human experience: the warmth of a hand, the echo of a voice long gone, the tension between what we remember and what we fear we will forget. I return often to the interplay of presence and absence—how a person can linger in memory like a shadow, a scent, or a song. Love in my work is rarely simple. It is a force that shapes, then challenges, then softens, and sometimes haunts. My writing tries to capture the way love stretches across time and the traces it leaves behind, traces that even silence cannot erase.

Language, for me, is a living texture. I aim for a style that blends clarity with musicality, balancing grounded imagery with lyrical movement. I gravitate toward metaphors that carry emotional weight—light, touch, breath, heat—because they allow me to express the intangible through the tangible. I want my readers to feel the poem physically, not just conceptually. The rhythm of a line, the pause between stanzas, the soft shift of an image: all of these are deliberate choices meant to echo the emotional landscape being explored.

Writing is my way of remembering, of witnessing, and of articulating what it means to be human in a world that often rushes past the very moments that define us. Through my work, I strive to create spaces where readers can reflect, feel seen, and recognize the shared threads that connect us. My growth as a writer is ongoing, but each piece brings me closer to understanding both myself and the world I am trying to translate.
