Before You Knew Me, I Already Cared

You somehow entered my heart, Even before our eyes met. Not you exactly– But your silhouette, The idea that someone might arrive And stay. I had preordained how I would treat you, I would be gentle. I would listen all the way through. I would remember the small things No one else thinks to keep. Before your words settle into my memory, I had made space for it. How odd, That I would build the foundations of a house, On land not yet purchased. As if this was inevitable, Like my life had been rehearsing A love It never got to give. Why did I not hesitate? Why was there no weighing? No pause to ask if you would meet me halfway, It's in the offering of my self, To be sacrificed at the alter, That I may gaze upon the works of the Lord.
