Leaves Changing Colors

Dear leaves, The changes in your beauty hold much weight. As you bask in the sun’s warm rays, clothed in green, I stand enamored by your glow, a photograph of nature’s grace that leaves the heart in awe. Yet only through the quiet harmony of all my senses can I begin to grasp the grandeur of your beauty. Then, you change. Seductive and evocative, your colors deepen, Red and weighty, the hue of passion itself. My heart stirs; I yearn to experience every shade of you, to feel your warmth before it fades to chill, to taste your sweetness as autumn ripens, to play pretend beneath your fiery canopy, giving thanks for your perfect imperfections. Then, you change. I can feel our time waning. Now you’re dressed in a yellow hospital gown, your glow dimming, your strength retreating. I cling to you, hoping my love might warm the growing coldness of your touch. Then— Then you change one final time. My heart sinks into the quiet earth. Why must you go, leaving only memories of colors that once burned brighter than words?
