Restraint
Dear Calista
Have you wondered,
How it feels for a Dam to hold back
the commanding force of a river?
As the pressure amounts every passing day,
And the forces of nature wage endless warfare,
The Dam must remain steadfast,
So that we may maintain our quality of life.
Yet within the walls, the water rages,
Its power surges, longing to break free.
Each wave whispers your name,
The ravishing current mirrors my desire.
I, too, am a dam
And you are the river,
Every crevice is filled with beauty,
I feel the pull of your soul,
The inevitability of surrender,
Yet I must compose myself,
For to release recklessly
Would drown all that I have built.
This devotion…
This Love… Is measured in patience,
Though some forces, May be irresistible
They must be contained,
Until the world is ready to witness their full glory
And so I stand firm,
Undaunted by the storm,
Remaining unshaken against the tide,
waiting for the moment
when your river and my walls
can meet without fear,
and the flood of my heart
may finally spill over in your embrace.
